Musical excellence - supporting good causes

NSWO 2017

Welcome to the web site of Nottingham Symphonic Winds (NSW).

Nottingham Symphonic Winds comprise two groups, the Nottingham Symphonic Wind Orchestra (NSWO) and Nottingham Wind Ensemble (NWE), with over a hundred musicians and volunteers involved.

At the heart of every performance is the desire to make music of the highest quality, whilst supporting local and charitiies who have benefitted to the tune of over £115,000. Since the group’s formation over 500 musicians have enjoyed the opportunity to play in a friendly and encouraging environment.

The work of the Nottingham Symphonic Winds is made possible by the support and inspiration of co-founders Margaret Frogson and David Oldershaw, of Windblowers music shop, and an army of volunteers. In 2007, Margaret was honoured with a national ‘Making Music’ award for her organisational work with the group, recognising her outstanding contribution to music in the community, and in 2016 awarded the MBE for services to community music.
